According to Wikipedia, the definition of a cookie would be:
A cookie (also known as web cookie or browser cookie) is a small piece of data sent from a website and stored in a user’s web browser while the user is browsing that website.
Wikipedia (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cookie_(informática))
A cookie is a file that is downloaded to the user’s device when he or she accesses certain websites to store and recover information about what has been browsed from that equipment.
With the evolution of websites, cookies have practically become essential in order to offer users all kinds of services, such as the possibility of registering on the website, personalising or configuring the site to the user’s taste, managing shopping carts, etc.
Browsing without cookies is perfectly possible, but many of these new services will stop being available without them.
Web bugs are also used at Zumex. These are tiny and transparent images inserted into some contents. When users access this content, this image is downloaded, thus making it possible to know the number of times that this content has been seen, as well as the IP address from which it has been downloaded. This information is compiled anonymously and is used to compile statistical data about certain areas of the website.
The cookies that we use never provide personal data and the user always remains anonymous.
The browser can be configured so that it does not accept the use of cookies, although, in that case, some of the site services would not work. However, the content can be accessed and it is possible to browse the website without major problems.
For more information on how to configure the browser to limit the use of cookies, click here.
In general, you can classify cookies in two ways, according to their permanence or their purpose.
According to their permanence, there are two types of cookies:
These are the ones that are generated every time the user accesses the service and they expire or are eliminated when the user closes the browser.
These are the ones that remain in the user’s computer even though he or she closes the browser. They are only eliminated when their permanence time expires (which is usually a very long time), when they fulfil their function or when they are manually cleared.
If we classify them according to their objective, Cookies can be classified as follows:
This type of cookie permits personalising the browsing experience, storing website configuration or presentation options, so that these options do not have to be selected during every visit. Some examples of this type of cookies would be those used to:
- Adjust volume, transmission speeds, etc. of video or sound players.
- The products stored in the “shopping cart” in e-commerce services such as shops.
- Language selected in which we want to see the website.
The geolocation cookies enable users accessing the website to be approximately located (always anonymously) to try to offer a more personalised browsing experience, being able to offer content related to the area that the user connects from (news of the area, automatic language selection according to country, etc.).
Registration cookies are generated when users register on a website or service, or when they already have the access data and they log into that website or service, thus allowing access to the different sections of the website without having to give their credentials on each page.
In short, these cookies enable users to remain identified so that they can access certain services, such as:
- Keep the Users identified so that, if they close the Service, the browser or the computer, and at another time or another day, they enter that Service again, they will continue to be identified, thus enabling them to browse without having to continually identify themselves.
- Check if the User is authorised to access certain Services, for example, to participate in a forum, comment or access restricted areas of the website.
This cookie can be eliminated by pressing the "close session" button so that the next time the user accesses from that device, he or she must enter his or her credentials again to be able to enjoy the associated privileges.
This type of functionality can also be used by means of third-party cookies, such as social media, like, for instance, Twitter or Facebook, so that users can confirm their identities via these services on the website through their cookies.
This type of cookie is normally generated through an external provider (such as Google Analytics, Comscore, Netscope, etc.) and their aim is basically to identify users anonymously to be able to analyse their patterns whilst they browse the website.
When users access for the first time, a cookie is generated that will identify them in future visits, always anonymously and in order to obtain statistical data such as:
- Count the number of “different users” that access the website in a certain period of time.
- Anonymously identify the most visited contents and therefore the most attractive.
- Know if the User accessing is new or a repeat visitor.
- Know the number of pages that each user reads on average.
IMPORTANT: these cookies will never be associated with personal data that can identify the user and they will only be used in order to compile statistical data that permit improving users’ experience on the site.

This type of cookies permits storing information (always anonymously) about the user’s interaction with the site advertising, and they permit personalising the type of advert to try to offer campaigns of interest for the user.
Some examples of the type of data saved are:
- Viewing frequency of advertising positions.
- Interaction with campaigns.
- Number of times an advert has been seen.
To manage the advertising of its sites, Zumex uses third-party tools known as “Ad-servers” that facilitate the task of organising advertising campaigns among the different sites and formats, thus optimising the available inventory.
This type of tool generates its own cookies that are stored in the user’s equipment when he or she accesses our services. These companies have their own privacy policies.
At Zumex, we are currently working with the Google “Doubleclick” Adserver to manage these services. For more information:

All modern browsers permit deactivating the use of cookies, denying a particular service permission to store them, or doing so globally for all browsing.
Normally the options to carry out this type of setting can be found in the browser “options” or “preferences” menu, although there are free complements and programs that carry out the same function.
The way to access this configuration from the most popular browsers would be as follows:
- Internet Explorer: Tools -> Internet options -> Privacy -> Setting.
For more information, you can consult the Microsoft support or the Browser Help
- Firefox: Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> History -> Custom settings.
For more information, you can consult the Mozilla support or the Browser Help
- Chrome: Settings -> Show advanced settings -> Privacy -> Content settings.
For more information, you can consult the Google support or the Browser Help
- Safari: Preferences -> Security.

Some of the services offered by the websites may stop working or may only work partially, such as remaining identified, keeping shopping in the "shopping cart" in an e-commerce service, receiving specific information depending on your location or viewing some videos.
Zumex can amend this Cookies Policy depending on the legislative or regulatory requirements, or in order to adapt this policy to the instructions given by the Spanish Data Protection Agency; thus it advises Users to visit it from time to time.
When significant changes occur in this Cookies Policy, Users will be notified either via the website or, if they are registered users, by e-mail.
